*It has been rumored
that Elias Perkins drown in Lake Champlain in 1815. The mention of his
drowning was "supposed" to have been written within a 1899 Obituary for his
daughter Emily (Perkins) Cox. This obituary was "supposed" to have been
published in a Chasm Falls, NY newspaper (Which I have been unable to
locate). The only mention I can find of Emily (Perkins) Cox death is in "The
Palladium" Newspaper @ Malone, Franklin Co., NY - Friday Feb. 16th, 1899 - "In Whippleville
twp., Malone Co., N.Y. on Tuesday, Feb. 7th, 1899, of old age, Mrs. Emily Cox,
aged 86 years." I find no newspaper article as of (2015) that mentioned
anything about Elias Perkins drowning in Lake Champlain.
**12/2017 : Two newspaper articles were found with
information that the ELIAS PERKINS who drowned was
Elias Perkins III b.1849 NY and NOT

==================================================================================================================================================================================== *It has
been rumored that Elias Perkins ran away from his wife and a family of 5
children and moved to Adams Co., Ohio and married
Dec. 3rd, 1818; Susannah (Rogers) "The widow Pike\Pyke (Widow of
William Pike\Pyke)" and died in 1834 in Columbia, Fayette Co., Indiana.
* Y-DNA tests have proven that the Elias Perkins who m. Susannah (Rogers)
"The widow Pike\Pyke" is in the descent from Edward Perkins of New Haven,
CT. This was confirmed by Hugh T. Brady in 2012.

(probably) (Capt. War of 1812) ..
Zephaniah Perkins
b.1790/1794 MA or VT? d.1865 NY. Son of (Calvin
& Catherine (Bothwell) Perkins). A 1st wife (Unknown) , His
2nd. ?wife
CHARLOTTE (BRIGHAM) b. 1805 NY d.1875.
I believe it was he who is listed on the 1810 New York Census at
Peru, Clinton Co., NY. Below are my reasons.....
This name is not indexed on any census, but after viewing the census, and
viewing the writing of the census taker. I compared the writing, and to me
it looks as if a Zephaniah Perkins is listed 21 names above "A. Perkins". I
also compared the pen strokes of the census taker, they took 8 strokes to
write the name of PERKINS, and even though the name of "Zephaniah" is
very light on the census and the surname listed is even lighter, I believe
it says "Perkins".
Also noted: the family of Zephaniah Perkins
is listed as follows : 00100-00110
The first set of numbers is for MALES and the second set of numbers are
FEMALES in the household.
According to the 1810 Census: The head of Household is listed as "Zephaniah"
Perkins , not the older female living in the household.
The Census questions are as follows: (space 1) Free White Males
Under 10 years old , (space 2). Free White Males of 10 and under 16
years old, (space 3) Free White Males of 16 and
under Twenty-six including Head of Families (space 4) Free
White Males of twenty-six and under Forty-five including Heads of Families
(space 5) Free White Males of forty-five including heads of Families
(space 6) Free White Females under 10 years of age (space 7)
Free White Females ten years and under sixteen (space 8)
Free White Females of sixteen and under twenty-six including Heads of
Families (space 9) Free White Females of
twenty-six and under forty-five including Heads of Families (space
10) Free White females of forty-five and upwards including Heads of
Families.
This shows me that Zephaniah Perkins, who is
the Head of Household, was between the age of 16 and 25. He would
not of been listed as the Head of Household if he was not a married man.
One female is also between the same age (wife), and one female is between
26-45 <A Possible Mother-in-Law ? . You will need to view the 1810 Peru,
Clinton Co., NY Census p.29 Heritage Quest or page 25 Actual Census, to make
a decision yourself.
