A descendant of Elkanah Perkins submitted a Y-DNA Test kit (312114) at familytree.com. He matched with other descendants of John Perkins, Sr. of Ipswich, MA. His Y-DNA is different then the submitter of Y-DNA Test kit (2684) who matched with descendants of Edward Perkins of New Haven, CT. The submitter of YDNA Test kit (2684) is a descendant of Ketchel Perkins, son of Elijah Perkins b.1774 m. Patience (Wood),  who was the son of of Joel & Mehitable (Brooks) Perkins.

Some sources state that the maiden name of his wife Phebe was O'Riley. Through a autosomal DNA test, this was proven as being incorrect.
