CENSUS FACTS
Between 1763 and 1783, Michigan
was part of Quebec Territory. Between 1787 and 1800, Michigan was
considered to be a part of the Northwest Territory. Between 1800 and
1805, it was part of Ohio and Indian Territories. These facts can come
into play when researching census records for Michigan ancestors.
Wisconsin was carved from Michigan Territory
so when searching for ancestors from Wisconsin areas in early years, you
will also need to consider searching in Michigan.
