1862: June 20th - Beaver Dam Argus. The
Green Lake Spectator says that an entire family, living in the west end of
that city, consisting of Mrs. Hannah Reese and daughter, and
Mrs. Perkins a sister of Mrs. Reese, were
poisoned on Sunday last, in a most unaccountable manner. They were first
taken with violent pains and vomiting, about four o'clock in the
afternoon, shortly after eating their Sunday dinner. Doctors Babcock and
Swetting were immediately summoned and they at once pronounced the
symptoms those of violent poisoning, and proceeded to administer
antidotes, which succeeded in counteracting the poison, and they are now
comfortable, and in a fair way to recover. They had a narrow escape, and
the cause still remains a mystery.
