1873-1876: Sept-Oct

Dr. John Perkins was charged with shooting Col. R. E. Johnson with the intent to kill. Dr. Perkins obtained a decree from the superior court, granting him a divorce from his wife, Estelle H. Perkins, on the ground of adultery.

Sept. 4th, 1888: Notice: To Almond Perkins of Edwards, NY, Solon Perkins of Pierpoint, NY, John Perkins of Oshkosh, WI, William H. Perkins and Andrew J. Perkins of Kensett, IA, Orra F. Perkins and Myron S. Perkins of Northwood, IA and Perry Perkins of Burlington Junction, IA. Also: Cassandra Brown of Russell, NY, Martha J. Fifield and Sophia Woodside of Heuvelton, NY, Spencer Bannister of Potsdam, NY, James Fifield of New Hartford, IA, Harriet E. Towne of Plymouth, IA, Lucinda Chapman of Britt, IA, Mary Heally of Canton, NY.. Constituting all the next of kin and heirs at law of Susan McCargen, late of the town of Edwards, St. Lawrence Co., NY, deceased, send greetings. Whereas James Brown, executor named in the last will and testament of the said Susan McCargen, deceased, has lately applied to our surrogate of our county of St. Lawrence to have the said will proven.

1892-1895: Jan-Jan

Aug. 9th, 1893: Mrs. Louis Agassiz is the grand-daughter of J. W. Perkins, the prince of Boston who gave up his home to Dr. Howe for the School for the Blind. She is a woman of more then 70 years.

1893-1895: Dec.- Feb.

Aug. 7th: Mr. George Clement Perkins, native of Malone, NY ran away from home at the age of 12. Now a Senator of California. Seven years of his boyhood were spent at sea. He has seen every part of the civilized world and seen a great deal that wasn't. During his sea life he only went by the name of George Clement.

1903: Oct-Dec.

Mrs. Margaret Perkins, 81, died. She was burned to death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Ingersoll in Rome, NY. The terrible death was caused by a fallen hanging lantern which struck the floor near her chair, covering her clothing in oil. The lantern was suspended by a hook in the ceiling which pulled out as the lamp was being lowered. In a twinkling, she was enveloped in flames.

1912-1925: July- March

Mrs. Virginia E. Sartwell, 75, died. Widow of George Sartwell passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. F. Gawdin. Mrs. Sartwell was the mother of F. E. Perkins of Watertown, NY. She was born in Canada on Feb. 28th, 1848, daughter of John & Clarissa (Moranda) Bearwood. Twenty-One years ago she removed to Sylvia Lake Section. Besides Mr. Perkins, she is survived by two other sons. T. A. Barnes of Fullerville and W. P. Stone of Hailesboro and two daughters, Mrs. Gawdin, Mrs. Matthew Frawley of Gouverneur, NY, and one sister, Mrs. Ameila Kilbourn of Watertown, NY, one brother Joseph Bowen.

1918-1922: May-June

Aug. 13th, 1919: Mr. Byron Perkins of Davenport, IA is home visiting his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Perkins.

1920: May-April

Miss Jane Whiteford, who was the oldest inhabitant of the town, died at her home. She was born very soon after her parents, Thomas and Janet Whithead arrived in America from Scotland and was the oldest of eight children. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Janet Perkins who has lived with her since her advanced age prevented her living alone.

1933-1936: May - Jan.

Jan. 16th, 1935: Mrs. Jeanette (Whitehead) Perkins, 94, died. Widow of Benjamin Franklin Perkins of Tipton, IA. She was born at Edwards, NY on March 22nd, 1841, daughter of Thomas and Jeanette (Ladsey) Whitehead. Her parents were married in Scotland and came to America in 1829 and a daughter by a previous marriage of Mr. Whitehead made the ocean voyage. She was married to Benjamin F. Perkins about the year 1885 at Edwards, NY. Mr. Perkins had gone to Iowa with his people from New York when he was young, in a covered wagon, at that time Iowa was considered the "West". He became a farmer and the owner of two tracks, one of them being at La Port___. Following the marriage Mrs. Perkins lived at Edwards for 10 months and then went West to Mr. Perkins home in Tipton, IA. Mr. Perkins died at the Davenport, IA hospital in 1901. After her husbands death she stayed in Tipton for a few years, returning to Edwards. For 15 years she lived with her sister, Jane Whitehead in a log cabin at Edwards. She stayed there until the death of her sister in 1921. According to Mrs. Perkins, she wished to be buried in her wedding dress which she has saved nearly 50 years. Surviving are two nephews, Byron Wright of Fowler, NY and Erie Lake, assistant attorney general at Albany, NY, and a niece, Mrs. Grover Reed of Richville. Interment at Edwards Cemetery in the family plot.

Sept. 25th, 1946: Mrs. Leona Perkins of Aberdeen, MD, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Anna Sterling on Monday.

Jan 1st: Mrs. Grace (Walker) Perkins, 79, died at Dodgeville, NY. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel Walker of Richville, NY.

Mr. Frank Perkins, 72, died. He was born at Saranac Lake on Oct. 27th, 1880. He married Miss Lottie Russell of Ontario on Dec. 3rd, 1910. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Clifford McCollum of Harrisville, NY.

July 3rd: Mrs. Dorothy L. Perkins, 49, of Sackets Harbor, NY., died. Wife of Neil H. Perkins. She was born at Canton, NY July 12, 1924. Survived by her husband, and two daughters, Miss Maxine Perkins of Watertown, NY and Miss Annette Perkins of Sackets Harbor, NY. Three sisters, Mrs. Margaret (Conrad) Felix, Mrs. Mary Given both of Bigelow, NY, and Mrs. Donna (Merle) Boulton of Sackets Harbor. Two brothers, James Pritty of Gouveneur, NY and Miles Pritty of Rochester, NY. Her mother, Mrs. Lucille Pritty. She married Neil H. Perkins on June 20th, 1948 at St. Paul's Church at Watertown, NY.

April 17th: Mrs. Hilda Mae Reed, 69, died. Wife of Leo Reed. She was born in Parishville, NY on May 25th, 1916, daughter of Harold and Anna (Paul) Perkins. On May 29th, 1939 she married Gerald Quick, he died in 1949. She then married Leo Reed in 1951. She is survived by her husband, Leo, her mother Anna Perkins of Canton, NY, a daughter Mrs. Elaine Wick of Syracuse, NY, two step-daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sherry) Grover of North Java, NY, and Mrs. Alfred (Rosalle) Brassard of Depew. A sister Mrs. Ethel Mace of Canton, NY. A son, John E. and a brother Buster, died before her.

March 22nd: Mrs. Rose Ann Perkins, 78, died. She was born Aug. 10th, 1910 at Lisbon, NY. daughter of James & Jennia (McFadden) Curry. She married Howard C. Perkins on April 16th, 1928. Mr. Perkins died on Oct. 13th, 1973. She is survived by two sons,  D. George Perkins and Howard I. Perkins of Heuvelton, NY. Two daughters, Dorothy Ann Duvall and Cathy Rose Perkins also of Heuvelton, NY. A sister Hattie Scotland. Two brothers, Arthur Curry and James Curry.

Sept.12th: Mrs. Mary M. Perkins, 86, died. Surviving her are three sons, Francis Perkins of Gouverneur, NY, Kenneth Perkins of Colton, NY, Harold Perkins of Massena, NY.  Three daughters, Mrs. Anita (Rexford) Sampier, Mrs. Louise (William) Mousaw of Colton, NY, Mrs. Margaret ( Dominic) Pietrobono of Mount Kisco. Four sisters, Mrs. Marcella (Francis) Connelly of Norwood, Mrs. Loreta ( Martin) Clohosey, Anita Marden and Alice Matthews of Colton, NY. A brother, Kenneth Marden died before her. She married Herbert Perkins in June 1925, he died March 7th, 1974.
