MOSES J. PERKINS, died at his home on Grove street yesterday morning after a sickness of about five months. He had been in ill health for three years, but had only been confined to his home since October. Mr. Perkins was 72 years old and was one of the oldest residents of Rutland, having lived here about 67 years. He was a farmer and an extensive dealer in real estate. He had been a member of the Congregational church for 40 years. Mr. Perkins was born at Clarendon and his parents moved to Rutland when he was five years of age. After his marriage to JANE SOPHIA DUNCAN of Chester in 1847 he bought and lived on the Beebe farm at Mill Village for eight years. He then moved into what is now known as the Cramton farm on the Chittenden road, where he lived for about 12 years. In 1861 he moved to the old Tenney farm, which included the land between North Main street and Grove street, and between the Baxter line and the Allen farm. The Tenney farm house, which was situated opposite George C. Thrall's place, was torn down a number of years ago. Mr. Perkins gave to the town the land for Pearl, North and Crescent streets. The later street was called until within recent years Perkins avenue. In 1880 Mr. Perkins moved to the old Clark house on Grove street, where he died. On December 16th, 1896, Mr. and Mrs. Perkins quietly celebrated the 50th anniversary of their marriage. Mr. Perkins leaves a wife and three children, Mrs. Jennie M. Parmenter, Alvin D. Perkins and Mrs. H. C. Brown all of Rutland. The funeral will be held at the parlors of the Congregational church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
