the story of the boy, John E. Perkins Jr. of this place, who later moved to
Wisconsin and when the Civil War broke out, he raised a Company known as
"Eagle Company" Captain Perkins gave his life for his country. When he
left for his canal building job, he was 25 years of age. He went to

18th. She was born Jan. 12th, 1847, the youngest daughter of
Horace and
Emily (Hoyt) Perkins. To write the story of her life is but a repetition
of that of her sister, Miss Ellen Perkins, who preceded her in death
barely a fortnight ago. For eighty years these woman lived together,
scarcely even being separated for a day. To pass nearly a century in such
congenial and sympathetic companionship as existed between sisters, is
some thing more then ordinary. In by gone days Miss Ellen, the Elder
sister, strove to bear the heaviest burdens and spare the other frailer
one as far as possible. But she broke down at last and the younger woman,
after passing her eightieth year, assumed burdens too heavy for both body
and spirit. Miss Abby was always the more aggressive one. The services
were nearly as possible like those of her sister two weeks earlier. They
were mutually true and faithful in life and in their death they were not
divided. They are survived by no kin. They Hoyt families and others in the
far west, friends and neighbors have given them kind and watchful
attention for many years. Mr. and Mrs. James Crandall of Hannawa,
NY, attended, being distant relatives. 1929: Jan-March Jan. 11th: Miss Ellen Perkins, died,
daughter of Horace and Emily (Hoyt) Perkins. She was born Nov. 24th, 1841.
For many years she and her parents and sister lived on a farm about two
miles from the village on Colton Rd. Twenty-six years ago, the two sisters
sold the farm and came to the village to live. She was laid to rest in the
Perkins lot at Hillcrest Cemetery.
