Up to within recent years, there stood just North of the County buildings, a building that was known as the Perkins Place. Here Charles J. Perkins spent his early life and years of maturity and where he passed in 1916. He was the clerk of the School Board, Secretary of the St. Lawrence Agricultural Society and Secretary of the Canton, NY Savings & Loan Association almost from it's beginning in 1889. The old house in which Perkins was probably born, and where likewise his sister, who married Murray N. Ralph, was bought by Adam Helmer. Francis J. Perkins was their father and he ran a tinsmith tinker shop under the name of F. J. Perkins & Co.

A few days ago, a stranger, named Green, visited Canton, NY, making diligent inquiry for information as to the where-a-bouts of Gertrude Perkins, later married to G. P. Duncan. Gertrude (Perkins) Duncan has long been lost sight of for some years now. He stated that Mrs. Duncan, if living, might aid in the disposal of an estate.

Feb. 18th: Herald-Tribune

Dr. Gertrude Duncan, died. While no mention of the name of "Perkins" is written, it is believed she was the former (Miss) Gertrude Emily Perkins, daughter of Charles J. Perkins. Gertrude E. Perkins where-a-bouts have been unknown to friends for years and it is understood her three sisters, (Miss) Kate Perkins, Miss Alice Perkins and (Miss) Elizabeth Perkins, have been unaware of her residence if living. Mention is made in the story of her burial in Evergreen Cemetery, NY. This is an error no doubt, as recently, the rector of the Grace Church was informed of the death of the former Gertrude Perkins, who died practically penniless. Gertrude Perkins would be some years over 70.
