deceased was born in Grafton, Vermont, but the last 23 years were spent
where he closed his life. Mr. Perkins was converted to God four years
since, and joined the M. E. Church, under the inhors of brother D.
Fellows, Jr. and from that time till he was taken hence, he walked worthy
of his high protestor, and blameless before God and all the people. Though
he could not communicate much of his spiritual state during his last
sickness of about four weeks, seldom recognizing his own family, yet
during occasional lucid moments, he evinced a maturity for the heavenly
harvest. But his life for the past four years atiords ample assurance of
his safe arrival in the promised land. The bereaved widow and only
daughter enjoy the ___ and protection of the God of the widow and the
fatherless. 185?: Northern Christian Advocate, Auburn, NY. Rachel C. Perkins,
wife of Richard Perkins, died in Hannibal,
Oswego Co., NY, April 7th, in the 23rd year of her age. She has left a
husband and mother, and an infant son and other relatives to mourn her
early removal from their society. Rev. Jared Perkins - Rev. E. Scott writes from Nashua. Oct. 14th, as follows: "The numerous friends of Rev. Jared Perkins will be pained to learn that he is now suffering a relapse. He was so far improved two weeks ago as to be able to sit up much of the time, walk about the house a little, and once rode out, when he was again suddenly _____- He is now more reduced than ever. I grieve to say that the prospect of his recovery is very much darkened, still we cling to home, and pray unceasingly that it may please God to spare him. During the present week he has buried a promising son of about 21 years of age, who died of typhoid fever, at Winchester, N. H., which has very much added to the grief of the afflicted family. Not even the sorrowful satisfaction of seeing their dear son in his sickness, or following him to the grave was afforded them. Surely they need, and I trust they will have, the prayers of the church". Death of Bro. Perkins - Since the above
was in type, we learn by telegraph from Bro. Scott, that Bro. Perkins died
on Sunday, at 12 o'clock - Zion's Herald. 1862: Northern Christian Advocate, Auburn, NY. Mrs. Sally Perkins
died in Concord, N.Y., Nov. 21st, 1862, aged 75 years. This devoted
Christian mother was born in Dutches Co., N.Y. In 1805 she was married to
him who now so deeply mourns her loss. She was the fond mother of thirteen
children, nine of whom preceded her to the spirit land. About forty years
ago she gave her heart to God, obtaining a clear evidence of pardon, and
joined the M. E. Church, of which she has since lived a worthy and
faithful member. Death came suddenly, but she was ready. Her last
sufferings were great, yet her faith in Christ was unshaken. Her end was
peace and her memory is blessed.

Strange and Adventurous Career of "Prince Charlie" Perkins To the Editor of the Tribune: Sir - The article from Madrid which appeared in Monday's newspapers in regard to the claim of Carlos Allen Perkins to a royal pension was interesting to those who remember the late Charles Allen Perkins, father of the claimant. The career of Mr. Perkins was remarkable and unfortunate, and the claim which his son puts forth is a legitimate one. Mr. Perkins occupied several diplomatic positions in Spain and was also a member of the legation at Lisbon during President Grant's administration. He married in 1870 the Princess Isabella Gurowski de Bourbon, first cousin of the late Alfonso XII, Princess Isabella's mother, the Countess Gurowski, being the sister of Francois D'Assais, husband of ex-Queen Isabella of Spain. Mr. Perkins left two sons, Alfonso Perkins and Carlos Perkins. The former is on friendly terms with his royal relatives, having assumed a title, but Carlos Perkins, much against the wishes of his mother's relatives, adopted the stage as his profession, and has for that reason been disowned by them. Mr. Perkins died in Syracuse, NY about ten years ago. His sister, Mrs. Walter Adams, and two nieces still reside near this city. This Charles Perkins
and his sister Anna Perkins, resided
in Auburn in the middle 50's and went to school in the old Auburn academy.
Many of the old Auburnians will remember him and the family very well. |
