Edwin L. Perkins, who has been sick since last winter, and for some time has been in St. Francis hospital at La Crosse, died there last Thursday, August 30th, 1923. The body was laid to rest in the Sugar Creek cemetery beside his father and mother and sister Jeanette, on Sept. 4th. Edwin Lewis Perkins was born in the town of Clinton, Vernon Co., WI, March 2nd, 1868, and was at the time of his death 55 years, 5 months and 29 days of age, and has practically all his life been a resident of this and the near-by communities within the confines of Vernon county. He was united in marriage to Eva E. Johnson at Bloomingdale, Wis., on the 26th day of July, 1890, to which union was born five sons: Lester V. Perkins of Richland Center, WI, Wesley E. Perkins of Bannington, ILL, Leslie C. Perkins of Madison, WI, Floyd C. Perkins of Ontario and Lloyd V. Perkins of Milwaukee, WI, who was home during the period of his father's illness. They lived for some years following his marriage on a farm in Star Valley, coming to La Farge about twenty years ago, where he was employed for a number of years carrying mail on the star routes to Hillsboro and Richland Center, and later in other lines, leaving here three or four years ago and moving to Ontario, where they have since resided. He was taken sick last winter with kidney trouble and went to the hospital then, but the relief afforded proved to be only temporary and several weeks ago he went back, but without being enabled to arrest the course of the malady. Mr. Perkins was a member of the Odd Fellow, Rebekah, Grand Encampment and Beaver lodges. He was a kind and loving father and husband and passed away trusting fully in the saving grace of his Lord and Savior. Besides the wife and five sons, he leaves four sisters, two brothers and seven grandchildren, and many other relatives and a host of warm friends to grieve at his departure from their midst.
