1920: June 18th: Ironwood Daily Globe, Ironwood, MI.

The remains of Samuel J. Perkins, retired mining Captain who died at his home, will be taken to Negaunee, MI Sunday for burial. Mr. Perkins was born at Lamertoch, Devonshire, England, 69 years ago on Dec. 11th. He came to this country 40 years ago and settled at Norway, MI where he served as captain at the Aragon Mine, under Supt. Ellard of the Oliver Iron Mining Company. A number of years later he came to Ironwood and was employed as Captain at the Ashland Mine for the Cleveland Cliffs Company. He leaves a widow and seven children; Frank J. Perkins of Minneapolis, MN; Mrs. Alfred Kemp of Negaunee, MI; Mrs. C. J. Muck of Detroit, MI; Mrs. W. May of Negaunee, MI; Mrs. V. J. Peterson of Ironwood, MI; Mrs. W. E. Nines of Cleveland, OH and Mrs. J. H. Williams of Ironwood, MI. Funeral will be at the Mitchell Methodist Church.

                 Husband was Captain

The deceased was born at Tavistock, Devonshire, England on Jan. 16th, 1855. She came here with her husband many years ago and they made their home here while he was Captain of the Ashland mine. From Ironwood they moved to Marquette range to Diorite, 8 miles from Ishpeming, but returned here in 1921. Captain Perkins died eight years ago, a few months after they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Perkins leaves six daughters and one son, Frank J. Perkins of Minneapolis, MN. The daughters are, Mrs. Martha Kent of Ironwood, Mrs. C. J. Much of Detroit,  Mrs. William May of Negaunee, Mrs. J. H. Williams and Mrs. V. J. Peterson of Ironwood, and Mrs. W. E. Nines, of Kalamazoo. She also leaves nine grandchildren. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, pending the arrival of relatives, but it probably will be held Monday or Tuesday in Negaunee.

In the matter of the estate of Thirza Perkins, deceased. Edna Perkins Peterson having filed in said court her petition praying that a certain instrument in writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of said deceased, now on file, be submitted to probate.
