====================================================================== Source: OTTAWA FREE PRESS - October 16th, 1878 ====================================================================== LYMAN PERKINS: This gentleman is one of the oldest residents of the city now living, and although he has attained the age of 79 years, is still hale and hearty, and takes a lively interest in passing events, more especially those connected with the city. Mr. Perkins is an American by birth, but having been transplanted to Canadian soil when only 3 years of age, he is almost as much a native as though he had been born in this country. In 1825 he located at Hull, coming up from Hawksbury, starting a blacksmiths or trip-hammer shop, which he conducted for quite a number of years. In 1826, after the canal was located, he bought a lot from the late Nicholas Sparks, and erected thereon a log house, the same being finished in the month of December. It still stands, as one of the old landmarks, in the yard in rear of the Russell House, which is built on the original lot. In 1832, Mr. Perkins was in business on Wellington street, having erected a stone blacksmith shop and a stone dwelling house.
