JACOB W. HICE

HOME

                                                                      **IN MEMORY OF GERRY GROVENBURG**

JACOB W. HICE, son of John & Margaret (Milliron) Hice, was married at Park, St. Joseph Co., MI to Christina Grovenburg on August 16th, 1855. He was also a witness to the marriage of his brother,        John Hice to Frances Shuger on Jan. 14th, 1847.

He does not show up on any future Michigan Census records and no one can seem to find out what happened to him. It was suggested he may of died in the Civil War, but no record of his service from MI has ever been found.

A 1880 Census CD Search was undertaken and we have come up empty handed.

Have you, in your research of the Hice or Hise families, ever run across a Jacob W. Hice b.1830 Michigan ? If so, please contact us.

Update: 6.21.2011: Email From: Joel Hinderliter > There is a comment on your web site about a Jacob Hice (younger brother of Henry Hice).  I think there is a comment on your site that he married a "Christiana Grovenburgh" in August 1855.  I then found a wedding record of a Jacob W. Hice marrying a "Jane M. Scott" in 1871.  Both were residents of Schoolcraft, MI (county?) and Jacob's age in 1871 is listed as 41.  I then found Jane Hice living in Iowa in 1880 with two sons (Oscar Hice-9, and Geo. W. Hice-7).  She also had two sons with the surname of "Scott".  Both "Hice" sons were born in Michigan.  If the Jane Hice is the same as Jane M. Scott, then that would mean that Jacob Hice either died between 1873 and 1880 or just disappeared.
